Getting it right
- Use the username from your profile link (venmo.com/Jane-Doe), not your display name.
- Leave the amount blank for tips and donations; fill it in for fixed-price items.
- Choose 'I request from them' to send a charge request instead of a payment.
- Print your name next to the code so people can check they are paying the right person before confirming.
Questions people ask
Is this the same as Venmo's own QR code?
Not identical. Venmo's in-app code is tied to your account and can be scanned inside the Venmo camera. This one encodes your public profile link, so any phone camera opens it — which is what you want on printed material.
Does the amount have to be fixed?
No. Leave it blank and the sender types whatever they like. That is the usual choice for tip jars.
Does Venmo charge a fee?
We charge nothing. Venmo's own fees for business profiles and instant transfers still apply — check your account.
Can people pay me if they have no Venmo account?
The link opens a sign-up page for them. If you need to accept payment from anyone, a PayPal.Me or card-checkout link reaches more people.
